Lee Yong-jin faces criticism as he expresses anger over low birth rate in front of LE SSERAFIM’s Kim Chaewon
On March 19, LE SSERAFIM’s Kim Chaewon appeared on the YouTube channel “Lee Yong-jin YouTube” for an episode of the talk content “Yong Tarot”.
On that day, Kim Chaewon visited Lee Yong-jin for a tarot reading to commemorate LE SSERAFIM’s comeback with their 5th mini album “HOT”. While asking various fortune-related questions, Kim Chaewon asked, “When will I get married?”
When Lee Yong-jin asked “Do you actually want to get married?“, Kim Chaewon replied, “I definitely want to get married at some point. I mean, it’s one of the most special moments in life. So I’m curious.”
After reading the tarot cards, Lee Yong-jin said, “You’ll be more successful after marriage. I think you’ll be even happier than you are now. You seem like the type to be a devoted wife.”
But then, Lee Yong-jin suddenly burst out, saying, “These days, the birth rate is low and the nature of marriage is changing—damn, I’m f*cking pissed about it!”
When Kim Chaewon appeared flustered and let out a laugh, Lee Yong-jin quickly added, “Sorry for swearing, but I heard only one new student enrolled in Incheon’s Ganghwa Island—just one first grader. It’s not something I should be telling you, but it’s just me venting.”
However, viewers who watched the video criticized Lee Yong-jin, saying, “He swore right in front of her”, “Why rant about birth rates to a female idol?” and “That’s absurd—why doesn’t he have more kids then?”
As the controversy spread, it was confirmed on the afternoon of March 22 that the controversial part of the video had been quietly deleted without any notice. As of now, Lee Yong-jin’s channel has not provided any clarification or official statement regarding the matter.
